Final Thursday card at Hollywood Park

Today will be the last Thursday of racing ever at Hollywood Park. Very sad, indeed.

I am looking at a few maiden races this afternoon.

5th- #12 Apache Ambush gets a terrible post but doesn’t face a great bunch in here. (Contenders- 4,5,9,10,11)
8th- #6 Too Obvious may be in fact, too obvious. I won’t play unless she is 5/2 or better. (Contenders- 2,3,8,10,11)

Just 6 more days of racing at Hollywood Park following the action this afternoon.

Opening day at Tampa Bay Downs

Tampa Bay Downs opens their 2013-2014 meet this afternoon. The 91 day meet this year should be an exciting handicapping set of puzzles.
I really enjoy betting the turf races at this meet and with all of the shippers and class levels, the chance for coming up with a nice priced runner always seems a possibility.

I don’t have any selections at this point but may be posting a few on Twitter (follow me at @ThoroughbredRD).

I will be providing some thoughts throughout the meet.

On a sadder note, I’m very sorry to hear about the passing of Harvey Vanier.

Hollywood Park 11/7/2013

November 7th, 2013

I am usually excited about the opening day of a racetrack meet. Today however, is opening day of the final race meet ever at Hollywood Park (Betfair Hollywood Park).

I think this video says it all about Hollywood Park. Thanks to @TVG

Hollywood Park History

I’ll be back with a few selections for the opening day card. I will be following the entire meet.

#BC13 – Friday

It has been a long time since I’ve posted any selections. I have been active on Twitter so please follow me at @ThoroughbredRD

Hopefully, the wait is worth it.

Race 4 is not a #BC13 race but I will give Harlington’s Rose a big look if the filly is anywhere near 8-1.

#BC13 races- I am posting a “top” selection over 3 horses (listed in numerical order and not preference).

My top selection will be the heaviest played but I will use the others in many wagers.

Marathon- 10 with 5, 6 and 8.

Worldly posted the best Beyer in his last and should get a great trip stalking the front runners.

Juvenile Turf- 2 with 4, 5 and 8

Giovanni Boldini will be my play based on the European form displayed in the past editions of this race.

Dirt Mile- 2 with 7, 9 and 11

Golden Ticket will be my “Day Maker” wager of the day. If this horse wins….I can’t lose money on the day.

The past trends point to a 4 or 5 year old who finished 3rd or worse in their last race and is a price horse.

Juvenile Fillies Turf- 5 with 6, 9 and 11

Granny Mc’sKitten was favorite over Testa Rossi, Sky Painter and Dancing House in their last meeting. She tired from a wide post but gets a big post break today to stalk the front-runners. Looks like a logical choice at a big price.

I would have loved My Conquestadory if not for the 14 post. Definitely have to include on any tickets.

Distaff- 5 with 2,4 and 6

I just see Beholder taking them gate to wire in here. Royal Delta will be a short price and Princess of Sylmar continues to amaze but Beholder may be the value.

Opening Day at Santa Anita

It has been a while since I’ve posted. My “real world” job has gotten much busier so I haven’t had the time to handicap. I am turning my attention of the racing in California as their later posts fit better with my schedule.

It is going to take a period of time to adjust to the racing scene in Southern California. Therefore, I probably won’t be posting many selections but instead, I will be posting more observations and notes.

Of course, I will be watching the big races during the year and still plan to post ideas on those races.

Hopefully, we can make some money at Santa Anita.

Until tomorrow, have a great day.
